This weeks episode of Eastbound & Down was something we all knew was coming.  They had to slow down the comedy in order to get the drama of the main story across.  It was still pretty funny, although the pace of the laughs is much slower for this episode.  At the end of last weeks episode we saw Kenny and Shane doing lots of blow and it ended with Shane dying from an overdose.  This week it opened with Kenny finishing all the cocaine and then cleaning up Shane’s place a little bit and staging him on the sofa for someone to find.  Kenny also takes Shane’s fancy pickup truck and takes off.  It seems to have went off without a hitch, but trouble finds Kenny in another way as he meets Shane’s family at his wake.  Kenny is surprised to find that Shane had a twin brother.  Kenny thought it would be funny to take the twin over to the young girls Kenny and Shane had been banging and it freaked out Shane’s girl when she saw him.  Didn’t really go well.  Shane’s brother lays it out there for Kenny to hear ont he drive back and Kenny kicks him out of the truck, that Shane’s brother knows he took from him.  In probably the funniest part of the episode Kenny Powers attends Shane’s funeral, dressed in his patented all black and when the grandfather chokes up during the eulogy, Kenny runs in with a boombox jamming the Candlebox hit Far Behind and gives his own eulogy.  All the while Stevie is in a car with Shane’s sister and they end up fucking!  Nice.  After playing some more tunes on the boombox, well really he just was mostly singing Pearl Jam’s Alive, which is kind of funny.  The part of the sequence I did like was when Kenny explains to the audience that Shane and Kenny used to pretend to be the guys from Top Gun and they always argued who was Goose and who was Tom Cruise (funny they never say Maverick), and Kenny says that now we know who was Goose, since Shane is dead and Goose died in the film, and that make Kenny Tom Cruise.

In a fitting end, we see Shane’s family form a human chain to prevent Kenny from leaving in Shane’s truck.  Kenny gives it back and then when walking home realized that his phone is in the truck.  They call it and Shane’s brother chucks it out into the street.  As the episode is ending we see Kenny sitting alone and sadly contemplating  the state of his life and then we see April trying to call Kenny on his phone, which is busted up in the middle of a street.

RIP: Shane.  I’ll miss you buddy, you were funny as shit.
